About Us

Kokopelli, the iconic humpbacked flute player depicted in our logo, is a well-known figure in the Southwest.

Originally from the Anasazi tribe, Kokopelli is regarded as a fertility god, a healer, a teacher and storyteller. Some people have referred to Kokopelli as the first “journalist” in the area because, according to legend, he used to travel from village to village spreading news about the weather and the incoming harvest seasons.

As journalism students we are storytellers. We are the kokopellies of modern times. And in addition to the written word, we are delivering stories using multiples platforms: video, photo, audio, graphics, maps and social media.

Kokopelli-nmsu.com is a website produced by journalism students at New Mexico State University. The website has been created for educational purposes only.
