The Lobos scored 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s football matchup against the Aggies at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque, but it was too little too late for the Lobos (1-1). The Aggies held on for a 30-28 victory after defensive back Javahn Ferguson knocked down what would have been a tying 2-point conversion.
The victory marked NMSU’s second win in as many years over in-state rival University of New Mexico. Larry Rose III rushed for 99 yards on 21 carries for the Aggies, and NMSU’s Izaiah Lottie had three receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns on the night.
NMSU improved to 1-1 on the season, and will face Troy University Sept. 16 in Las Cruces in the Aggies’ home opener.
