The New Mexico State men’s and women’s basketball teams are getting ready to take part in the 2019 WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Both teams went 15-1 in the WAC regular season and earned the top overall seed heading into the tournament. The women’s only defeat came against the Grand Canyon Antelopes on Jan. 10, by a final score of 54-51. The men lost their WAC opener to newcomers, the California Baptist Lancers on Jan. 3, 82-76.
The men are looking to defend their title in Las Vegas and are hoping to get back to the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the team defeated Grand Canyon in the title game, winning 72-58. The men earned a No. 12 seed and a place in the Midwest region of the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies went up against the No. 5 seed Clemson Tigers, but couldn’t get past their first-round foe and bowed out in the first round, 79-68.

The women were unable to make the NCAA Tournament last year as they lost in the WAC tournament semifinals to Seattle University by a final score of 84-61. The team this year will be looking to avenge the loss and have their eyes on the WAC title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The women play today against the Chicago State Cougars in the first round, with tipoff set for 1 p.m. MST. The men also play Chicago State in the first round of the tournament tomorrow at 1 p.m. Both teams are heading into the tournament as the favorites to win it all.
