Recap: WAC Tournament (Day 1)

Game 1 – Quarterfinals (Women)

1 New Mexico State 90

8 Chicago State 54

New Mexico State took care of business against Chicago State. The Aggies put up 90 points and impressed on the defensive side. Chicago State gave up the ball 33 times and was only able to put up 54 against the regular-season champions.

Game 2 – Quarterfinals (Women)

4 UMKC 78

5 Utah Valley 75

The 4 and 5 game is always one to watch. The University of Missouri-Kansas City rolled in the first half to put up 36 points. Utah Valley didn’t go down without a fight and shot above 60 percent in the second half. Kansas City took more shots down the stretch and made critical last-second free throws to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Game 3 – Quarterfinals (Women)

2 UT Rio Grande Valley 56

7 Seattle 54

Despite what appeared to be an upset brewing during most of the game, the Vaqueros of UTRGV pulled out the win. Seattle fought long and hard, but turnovers cost the Redhawks the game in the end. A low scoring battle had fans out of their seats to cheer on their teams.

Game 4 – Quarterfinals (Women)

3 CSU Bakersfield 73

6 Grand Canyon 59

CSU Bakersfield routed GCU in what was a close match in the beginning. Sloppy turnovers and foul trouble ended GCU’s title run early in its tracks. The crowd noise coming from the Bakersfield fans in Orleans Arena helped CSUB to advance to the semifinals.
